In Hospital Surgery

PUBLIC HOSPITALS

There is no charge to patients for surgery undertaken in public hospitals including Westmead Hospital, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Wollongong Hospital and Orange Hospital.

PRIVATE HOSPITALS

The costs for surgery in private hospitals consists of three independent elements:

  • Surgeon’s Fee
  • Anaesthetist’s Fee
  • Hospital Fee
For surgery undertaken in private hospitals, Dr Sandler charges AMA rates for most, but not all procedures. We will provide you with a fee estimate that must be signed and returned to us prior to surgery. The out-of-pocket costs may vary depending on your private health insurance provider and policy.

We do not provide a fee estimate for the anaesthetist or the private hospital. Generally, most insurance policies will cover the hospital fee, less the excess associated with your particular policy. The anaesthetist’s fee should be quoted to you by the anaesthetist prior to surgery and is independent of the surgical fee.

Our staff can help advise you on the option that suits your particular situation.
